Logan Rooney on Versatility, Experience and a Team-First Mindset

Originally from California, Logan Rooney has built his basketball journey across both the United States and the UK. Now in his fifth year playing in England, the guard-wing joins the Yorkshire Dragons looking to contribute his experience and adaptable playing style.

Logan first developed his game in the United States, playing his college basketball in Washington before exploring opportunities to continue his career overseas. “After college finished, I was just looking for opportunities to keep playing,” Logan explained. “I came across a good opportunity in England and just never looked back.”

From the United States to the UK
Logan made the move to England in 2021, combining basketball with postgraduate study while competing in the highest level of university basketball in the UK, the BUCS Premier League, with Newcastle University.

The experience proved to be a memorable start to his time in the country. “That was a lot of fun,” he said. “We had an awesome team and a great group of guys, and we ended up winning the whole thing, so I can’t complain at all.”

A Versatile Guard-Wing
Standing at guard-wing height with good length, Logan describes his playing style as versatile and adaptable offensively.

“I’d say my playing style is versatile offensively,” he said. “I have good height and length for the guard-wing position, and I like to mix it up between attacking the rim and shooting.”

His ability to contribute in multiple ways gives the Dragons another offensive option as the team pushes through the latter stages of the season.

Settling into the Dragons
This season marks Logan’s first with the Yorkshire Dragons, and he has enjoyed the atmosphere and environment within the club.

“It’s been really enjoyable,” Logan said. “It’s a great community atmosphere and a great group of guys on the team. I’ve really enjoyed being here.” Having joined the squad partway through the season, Logan’s main focus has been integrating into the team and finding ways to support a group that had already built momentum earlier in the year.

“I came in a little bit late, so my biggest focus has been figuring out how I can help a team that’s already had some success,” he explained. “Just trying to find ways to be as effective as I can for us.”

Eyes on the Cup Final and Playoffs
With the Dragons already securing a place in the Cup Final, Logan believes the team is in a strong position heading into the decisive part of the season.

“The number one goal is to win that and bring some hardware back,” he said. “Then it’s about getting everyone clicking again now that we have our guys back and making a strong run into the playoffs.”

Continuing to Grow
Looking ahead, Logan sees adaptability as the key to his continued development while playing overseas.

“Every situation and every team is different,” he said. “You always have a different role, so it’s about learning how to adapt and find ways to be effective in each environment.”

A Message for Dragons Fans
For the Dragons supporters who continue to show up week after week, Logan had a simple message.

“Thank you guys so much for the support,” he said. “Just keep showing up for us and we'll win a lot of games for you.”
