Academy Teams – In Partnership with Calderdale College

The Yorkshire Dragons Academy Programme, delivered in partnership with Calderdale College, offers a unique opportunity for young athletes aged 16–19 to combine top-level basketball development with a high- quality education.

The programme features two competitive Academy teams — Academy I and Academy II — allowing players to develop at the right level for their experience and potential. Both teams train and compete regularly, with access to elite coaching, strength and conditioning, and academic flexibility.

Based at the state-of-the-art Inspire Centre, the Academy supports players pursuing either a BTEC qualification or a trade-based education, ensuring a well-rounded experience on and off the court.

Why Join the Dragons Academy?

  • Two competitive teams to support player development at all levels

  • Academic flexibility – timetables built around training and study

  • Strength & conditioning sessions and nutritional support

  • Pathways to higher-level basketball and potential scholarships in the UK or USA

  • Unique trade pathway – study construction or other trades while playing at a high level

U12 Group – Fun, Fundamentals & Friendship

Our U12 Group is where the basketball journey begins — a fun, welcoming space for young players to learn the game, build confidence, and burn off some energy!

Focused on developing ball-handling skills, movement, teamwork, and social confidence, our sessions are designed to be active, inclusive, and full of smiles. Whether your child is picking up a basketball for the first time or already showing promise, this is the perfect place to start.

We currently run U12 sessions in:

  • Buttershaw (Bradford)
